SPECIALTY CONTACT LENSES

Irregular Cornea Management

An irregular cornea causes light to scatter, leading to blurred vision. This can result from conditions like keratoconus, post-LASIK complications, corneal grafts, or trauma. Specialty contact lenses are a non-surgical solution that create a smooth optical surface over the eye to restore clear vision.

Which Contact Lens is Suitable for You?

  • Soft Lenses – Suitable for mild corneal irregularities or early-stage keratoconus. They offer some visual improvement but may not be effective for advanced conditions.
  • Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses – Best for moderate corneal irregularities . The rigid material masks uneven corneal surfaces, improving vision clarity significantly. However, some patients may need time to adjust to the comfort.
  • Hybrid Lenses – Ideal for moderate keratoconus or post-surgical irregularities . These lenses have an RGP center (for sharp vision) and a soft skirt (for enhanced comfort). They are a good option for those struggling with RGP lens discomfort.
  • Scleral Lenses – Recommended for severe corneal irregularities, post-graft, post-trauma cases, or advanced keratoconus . These large-diameter lenses rest on the white part of the eye (sclera), creating a tear-filled space over the cornea. They offer stable, sharp vision while keeping the eye hydrated, making them the most comfortable option for severe conditions.

Our experienced optometrists will assess your eye condition and recommend the most suitable lens for clearer, more comfortable vision.
