Reading Problems Solutions
Presbyopia (Aging Eyes)
Presbyopia is a natural part of aging where the eyes gradually lose their ability to focus on close objects. It typically begins around age 40.
Symptoms
- Difficulty reading small text, such as on phones or books.
- Headaches and eye strain, especially with prolonged screen use.
- In some cases, neck stiffness and discomfort.
Cause
Presbyopia happens when the lens inside the eye loses flexibility, making it harder to switch focus between near and distant objects.

How to Manage Presbyopia
A) Spectacle Options
- Reading glasses – For near vision only.
- Bifocal glasses – Separate areas for distance and near vision.
- Progressive (multifocal) glasses – Provide smooth vision at all distances.
- Office lenses – Optimized for near and intermediate distances, reducing eye strain for office work and digital screens.
Our optometrists personalize progressive and office lenses to give you the best clarity and comfort for your daily activities.
B ) Multifocal Contact Lenses – Choosing Your "Happy Vision"
Multifocal contact lenses provide vision for both distance and near, but there is always a slight compromise. You can choose one of the following:
- Sharp distance vision – Near vision will be slightly blurred.
- Sharp near vision – Distance vision will be slightly blurred.
This means your "happy vision" depends on what matters most to you—whether you prioritize clear far vision or sharp near vision for reading and close-up tasks.
